George Alfred Furminger was born 13th April 1852 in St Leonards on Sea, East Sussex.

He is living at home with Louis on the 1861 Census and is also still living at home with Louis on the 1871 Census. Home being the Two Bells public house in Folkestone.

On the 19th December 1875 he married Ellen Elizabeth EDWARDS in Folkestone. (She was born abt 1850 in Ashford, Kent and died in 1901 at Folkestone. The eldest of the 5 daughters of William & Harriot. Her farther was born in Flintshire, so I assume he was Welsh)

George and Ellen had 9 children in total, the first, my Grandfather George Alfred was born 9/9/1878 in Folkestone. He was followed by: Fanny b.1880, Blanche b.1881, Lucie b.1883, William b.1885, Percy Thomas b.1889, Florence b.1891, James Louis b.1893 and finally Fred b.1897, all in Folkestone.

On the 1881 Census George and family are living 7 Alexander street, Folkestone. George is employed as a general labourer.

On the 1891 Census George and family are living at 69 Bridge street, Folkestone. George is employed as a Stoker with the South Eastern Railway. (Note: Blanche is not on the census - did she die ?)

On the 1901 Census George and family are still living at 69 Bridge street, Folkestone. George is employed as a harbour porter for S.E.R. (Note: Folkestone harbour had a train ferry and its own train station)

Son George is employed as a General Labourer, Fanny is working as a laundress from home with her sister Lucie and William is employed as a Bath chairman.
